Sustainable trade fairs?
Yes, you can.
At meplan, we consider sustainability to be a core responsibility in all our work processes. We always question what impact our products and services have along the entire value chain – from the resources required and actual production, to the entire implementation phase including logistics, warehousing, and the post-use phase. The result of our efforts is woodï.
woodï is not about looking sustainable. It’s about really being sustainable. The essential basis for this is certification and coherent analysis. We continuously monitor and optimize our carbon footprint by end-to-end monitoring of our system using the woodï.decarb tool, which is audited and verified by myclimate. This holistic approach to tracking our carbon footprint involves all stakeholders and extends beyond the trade fair booth. Any residual emissions, which are unavoidable, are compensated through verified carbon offset projects. Working with myclimate, we have established a certified system that accounts for all supply chain components and enables us to continuously reduce emissions.
Thanks to its own resource-saving woodï.system, meplan is a pioneer in the field of sustainable trade-fair booth design. Woodï is the first trade-fair exhibition system to integrate the principles of the circular economy. It has been implemented over one hundred times so far. It meets our goal of circularity, and significantly reduces our carbon footprint. Our innovative and sustainable woodï.system is designed to achieve zero waste in every area of our activity. Our goal is to have all material flows 100% closed-loop by 2028, and that is setting standards for the trade fair industry. This closed-loop approach enables us to significantly reduce the amount of waste at the end of trade fairs.
The zero-waste method means that we not only minimize waste, but also continuously reduce our emissions, which contributes to a steady reduction of our carbon footprint. Furthermore, our approach goes beyond simply avoiding waste. With woodï.2ndlife, we take materials through another use cycle before they are ultimately recycled. This reflects our commitment to sustainability and shows that effective environmental protection and economic efficiency can go hand in hand..
Experience woodï with the 3D-Tour at the BAU 2023 trade fair:
THE innovative and sustainable trade-fair booth system
The system’s modularity is based on a host of individual product elements, which makes woodï the perfect building block setting up entire exhibition halls. With a strict focus on circularity, you can implement innovative concepts that incorporate sustainability at all levels.
We warehouse our woodï components right at the Munich trade fair location. This guarantees the shortest transportation paths possible. We then use electric transporters and forklifts, thus eliminating unnecessary emissions.
In addition to complete hall concepts, the woodï trade fair construction system is also suited for building individual and circular trade-fair booths. We can satisfy all wishes, from small booth systems to large and unconventional designer booths.
Seven reasons for woodï
woodï evolution
In 2023, woodï underwent an important upgrade that can be seen on the product itself. Meplan’s own trade-fair booth system is basically composed of elements that can be assembled and disassembled multiple times. When a component has reached the end of its lifecycle, plans are in place to use it in some other capacity. A wooden wall, for example, can be turned into a tabletop, or if the wood shows extensive wear, it can be entirely recycled. In addition to the components of a woodï brand space, there is also furniture, technology and even decoration that play a role. All these components ensure that the circular economy is well integrated with woodï.
In our “woodïverse,” we involve partners who share our vision of sustainable trade-fair design. These cooperations enable us to regularly monitor all system components and services for climate effectiveness and resource conservation. Our experts ensure that every innovation we introduce corresponds to our very high eco-standards. This strategic partnership drives innovation in eco-friendly solutions that improve our customers’ brand communication and promotes change in the exhibition industry.
Lighting
For lighting, we have chosen an LED system by Ambright, which uses very energy-efficient technology and is easy to maintain and repair. This extends the lifecycle considerably. After the utilization phase, the components can be simply recycled, which is what makes the product valuable for the circular economy.
Furniture and accessories
The furniture and accessories come from WYE Design and are made of a new, innovative material, namely cloths that are a waste product from other industries and are usually incinerated. The material is manufactured regionally using green electricity. Because it is robust and repairable, it has a long lifecycle, making it even more resource-friendly. And when their work is done, so to speak, at some time in the future, they are recovered by our partners and turned back into the original material from which we develop new furniture for woodï with WYE.
Cloth concept
Two excellent products that comply with the Oekotex standard were chosen for the textiles used to make the large-scale curtains. They consist of at least 50 percent recycled polyester fibers and thus significantly reduce the use of new materials. The textiles made by the famous fabrics manufacturer De Ploeg also boast very good fire safety specifications, which are imperative for trade fairs.
Sound concept
To create a comfortable and agreeable atmosphere in the lounges, you need a sound concept. The clear and elegant aesthetics of the special acoustic tiles create a pleasant world of sound within the woodï landscape. They also serve as a new means to fill out our steel elements and thereby extend the ambient woodï look and color scheme. The tiles are made entirely of recycled PET, which means that the plastic has a second life. Because the material boasts grade purity, these sound tiles can simply be reintroduced into recycling cycles once they have reached the end of their lifecycle.
woodï.products
The woodï.shop system is ideal for implementing trade-fair booths or sales areas. Thanks to the system’s modularity, booths of all sizes can be furnished while accounting for brand identity as well.
The woodï.frame can be deployed for large exhibition halls or to implement holistic hall concepts. These systems are mainly used for common areas, catering areas, or trade-fair fora.
The latest member of the product family is the woodï.landscape. The broad structure offers additional seating options and combines natural decoration with modern design. It is the perfect element for filling large spaces in a smart way.
The woodï.house system is the perfect complement for lounges and catering areas that invite visitors to chill out. This system offers many options, from the TinyCoffeeHouse, to walk-in retail areas. It also boasts a high degree of flexibility in terms of exterior design.
Sustainability is only effective when all aspects of circularity have been taken into consideration. That was to spark that launched woodï.project. It was what completed the idea of circularity, which is in itself the concept behind the woodï system as a whole. This project has been carried out several times since 2023. Meanwhile, thousands of seedlings from a tree nursery have been used as decorative plants. As part of the woodï.forest project, they were subsequently replanted and have contributed greatly to the reforestation of damaged Bavarian woodlands .
woodï as a template for your ESG goals
With woodï, you will set new standards for meeting your ESG goals. Our trade-fair booth construction system is more than just an environmentally friendly solution. It also promotes social responsibility and good corporate governance along the entire supply chain. This is your opportunity to actively contribute to climate protection, use resources efficiently, and drastically reduce waste by deploying our system, which was developed for sustainability.
Implementing woodï in your trade-fair concept considerably reduces your environmental impact and represents a responsible investment in the future. Together, we will lay the foundations for a clean, green future and bring your company a leap closer to its sustainability goals.
